The statue measures approximately 10 1/8" high x 5 5/8" wide x and weighs 6 lbs 4 oz. (there's a quarter in one of the last photos to help show the size) The Buddha is carved from a colorful type of marble found in the himalayas, and is unique. The Buddha displays the dharmachakra mudra, or "turning the wheel of law" gesture. An excellent carving! Dharmachakra Mudra ...this is is the "gesture of preaching the Dharma", "fuming the wheel" or "turning the wheel of law" posture. The turning of the wheel refers to the dharma wheel, thus the spreading of the Buddha dharma, the Buddhas teachings. This posture is commemorative of one of the most important moments in the life of the Buddha. The occasion of His first sermon after his Enlightenment, preached to his former companions outside the deer park at Sarnath.
