My feedback is important to me. Thanks! I have been teaching for 16+ years. I have taught in several states thanks to my husband who is transferred every 2 or 3 years. I have had the unique opportunity to teach elementary - all subjects initially, but then becoming the grade level math teacher, middle school - from the academically challenged to the gifted; and also high school - where I taught students who did not know their basic math facts to the algebra I student. I have been the district math advisor, a teacher evaluator, and have presented at state teacher conferences as well as to individual schools. I absolutely love sharing my ideas with other teachers! At a conference a few years ago, the teachers in my classes suggested that I sell the games that I had created. They complained that theirs would not be as nice and they did not have time to make the games. They proclaimed that teachers would buy them if I made them. That got me thinking about marketing the games. Before changing my major to education, I was studying graphic design. I have incorporated my 2 loves by creating games for the classroom. Since that conference, I have been putting my ideas into action. My philosophy is - "If you make learning fun...They will learn!" As an former tennis and basketball player, games have always been an important aspect in my life. As a teacher, I have implemented games into the classroom as often as possible. After years of training in Learning Styles, Cooperative Learning, and Multiple Intelligences, I have taken ideas and techniques learned and have created games to practice the content that I teach in my classes. I have found that playing games in the classroom allows students to have much, much, more practice than they would have ever thought about completing with worksheets! My games motivate students to learn the content that I'm teaching. They know that there will be a game at some point to reinforce the skills taught. Using games that incorporate cooperative groups also encourage my students to help each other learn. A cooperative team is a winning team! I often use games to motivate my students to complete their homework. If students are not prepared with their homework, they are not prepared to play the game. This is a powerful motivator and only has to be enforced once to prove a point! You can contact me at didiromero@msn.com if you have any questions. If you would be interested in hosting a teacher workshop, please contact me.
