The stones are cut in graduated sizes and each has a different number of "points." These points connect to the apus and interface between them and the human body. Apu stones are used in healing ceremonies, applied as massage stones.The stones of this set are about 1 3/4 in. to 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 in. in size. They were hand-carved from naturally magnetic caliza limestone. This stone is abundant in the Cusco region and was used by the Inca for the construction of both buildings and monuments. It is a popular stone for ritual articles. It is naturally white but was colored brown with a pigment, called nogalina, derived from nut shells.Each apu stone is engraved with images of ritual signifiance (suns, moons, snakes, condors, coca leaves, etc.).
