Ad Deum qui lætíficat juventútem meam. I will go in unto the altar of God.To God who giveth joy to my youth.A Very Excellent and UNIQUE GIFT for a Newly Ordained Priestor for Your Favorite Priest!!!This auction offers your Parish or favorite Priest an opportunity to own a beautiful and exquisite vintage Burse for use when offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  This Burse is exquisite and features a BEAUTIFUL HAND-PAINTED DESIGN on silk -- this Burse is from the good old days when the Nuns hand painted liturgical items so that the Priests of their Parishes had marvelous liturgical items for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Burse is a receptacle used to carry the folded corporal to and from the altar for reasons of convenience and reverence.  The upper side typically is the same color as the vestments used for the Mass. With the Mass of Pope Paul VI (the Novus Ordo liturgy) after Vatican II the use of the Burse became optional; its use was not suppressed as some think, although it is rarely used.  However, a Burse is still required for the Tridentine Mass (the “Latin Mass”) that is gaining in favor, especially among younger Catholics who are seeking a greater sense of reverence and devotion when they worship.  The issuance of the Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum,* by our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI allows greater use of the Tridentine Rite.* The official Vatican web site has only Latin and Hungarian versions; other versions available on the world wide web appear to be this unofficial Vatican Information Service translation of the official Latin text. In addition, you might be interested in the Pope's letter to Bishops accompanying the issue of the Motu Proprio:Letter of His HolinessBenedict XVIto the Bishops on the Occasion of the Publicationof the Apostolic Letter "Motu Proprio Data"SUMMORUM PONTIFICUMon the Use of the Roman LiturgyPrior to the Reform of 1970 Those Parishes and Priests wishing to offer the Tridentine Mass will find this Burse a great addition to the liturgical items they need.  The stunning Burse features a beautiful design that was hand painted by Nuns.  The upper side of this Burse is covered with white silk and features the hand-painted design that you can see in the pictures.* It is  trimmed with a 5/8-inch gold appliqué border.  The bottom side is a solid gold silk.  The Burse measures 9-1/4 inches by 9-1/4 inches.  The front of the burse is in excellent condition for its age -- there are no age spots or fading or stains -- and it will add dignity to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  The back of the burse shows some wear at each of the corners; there are two close-up pictures of the two corners showing the most wear.  As you can see from the pictures, the front of the burse is fine; the wear in on the back side, and considering the rarity of hand-painted burses and the condition of the front of the burse, most people would still consider this a great item. * Please note that Burses are designed so that the top side opens, so when I took the picture of the opened Burse so you could see the material holding the front and back together, the design is naturally upside down.  The design is shown right-side-up in the picture of the unopened Burse. If you would like more information about Burses, I am providing -- at no additional cost to those who read this auction -- a link to The Catholic Encyclopedia description of a Burse. This item is offered for use only in a Catholic Church for its intended purpose.  We retain to right not to complete a transaction if there is an appearance that there will be a misuse of this item.
