This collection includes the major historical & biographical volumes published for Perry County, as well as a number of obscure historical publications. The larger biographical volumes are an excellent place to start genealogical research as these detail hundreds of family genealogies from the county.  The smaller, more obscure publications are an excellent addition to the larger volumes, as they contain information of a more specific focus.  Often these smaller publications contain historical and genealogical gems found nowhere else - such as portraits, biographies, and records.  (Please see the descriptions below for specifics on individual books.)This is a wonderful opportunity to own your own library on Perry County.  To find and purchase all of these publications would be a huge investment in time and money.  Yet, here you can have all of this information to use at your convenience - and in a format that make research much easier.  The work in collecting this information has already been done, and now you can take advantage of it!1) The History and Topography of Dauphin, Cumberland, Franklin,Bedford, Adams, Perry, Somerset, Cambria, and Indiana CountiesI. Daniel Rupp, 1848, 711 pagesThis publication begins with an early history of the state.  It discusses the German and Scotch-Irish immigrants who settled in these counties, and the follows with a discussion of the troubles the early settlers had with the Indians. After the general history of the area, it changes focus to Franklin County, covered on pages 538 - 553.  These pages discuss the formation and growth of the county (being split from neighboring Cumberland), a description of its geography, agriculture, industry, and a brief history of its major towns.  Following this is some discussion of the early settlers of the area.  At the end is a very useful Every-Name Index that was added to the original publication.2) Churches Between the Mountains.A History of the Lutheran Churchesin Perry County, PennsylvaniaRev. D. H. Focht, 1862, 420 pagesFrom the Preface:    "Until a late date no church-records were kept by most of the older congregations, and as the aged who had some knowledge of their early history were passing rapidly away, it was thought that something should be done, and done soon, to rescue from oblivion the history of those congregations; it was thought, also, that such a history would be interesting and instructive to the present and future generations."This publication is a history of the early Lutheran Churches in Perry County, PA.  The churches include: Lebanon Church at Loysville, Mount Zion Church in Spring Township, Ludolph's (Germany) Church in Spring Township, Christ's Church at New Bloomfield, St. Andrew's (Shuman's) Church in Saville Township, St. John's (Bealor's) Church in Juniata Township, the Lutheran Church at Newport, the Lutheran Church at Mansville, Zion Congregation at Blain, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Madison Township, Emanual Church in Saville Township, Lutheran Church in Henry's Valley Jackson Township, Christ's (Lutheran) Church at Petersburg, Mount Zion Church in Rye Township, Mount Pisgah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll Township, St. David's (Billow's) Church in Wheatfield Township, Church near New Buffalo in Watts Township, Congregation at Liverpool, Christ's Church in Liverpool Township, St. Michael's Church in Greenwood Township, St. Jame's Church in Greenwood Township, Zion Lutheran Church at McKee's Half-falls, Snyder County, St. Samuel's Church at Millerstown, Centre Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Township, Tuscarora Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Tuscarora Township.Included with the historical accounts of these churches, there are numerous small biographies of the ministers who served them.  At the end of the publication there is an every-name index as well.3) History of Perry County in PennsylvaniaSilas Wright, 1878, 295 pagesThis is the first historical volume published dealing specifically with Perry County, Pennsylvania. H. Hain, 1922, 1087 pagesFrom the Foreword:     "This is more than a history of Perry County, as it records much of Indian habitation and devastation and pioneer life long before its lands became a county, which has come down to us through the mists of another day, being principally based on official records and historical accounts of the period, with here and there a tinge of tradition, when well founded, which has descended down the years through generations of responsible people.    Among the first settlers were men and women of mental vigor and talent, and these characteristics became inherent in unborn generations, with the attendant result that Perry County has not only been the birthplace of many men illustrious in the affairs of the state, but also of an array of men and women educated in the learned professions, who have held, or hold, responsible positions in their respective communities, all over Pennsylvania and in a large majority of the states of the Union.  While the book is in no sense a biographical work, yet it is deemed fit and proper to record the more noted..."This is an extensive historical volume for Perry County.  As noted in the foreword, this is mostly a historical work, but there are is a great deal of information for genealogical research as well - Chapter 37 contains numerous brief biographies for prominent individuals who lived in or were born in the county.  Each of these biographies have been bookmarked for easy searching.Surnames:Adams, Albert, Alexander, Allen, Anderson, Anthony, Arnold, Asper, Bailey, Bannister, Barnett, Beacham, Bealor, Beaver, Beitzel, Benfer, Bergstresser, Bernheisel, Bigler, Billman, Billow, Bistline, Bixler, Blaine, Bloom, Book, Boserman, Bower, Bowers, Boyer, Brandt, Bretz, Briner, Bryner, Brunner, Bucke, Buck, Burd, Burkholder, Burns, Byron, Calhoun, Campbell, Charles, Cisna, Clark, Clegg, Clouser, Cochran, Comp, Creigh, Crow, Darlington, Davis, Deach, Deckard, Demaree, Derickson, Derick, Dice, Diffendafer, Douglass, Drake, Dromgold, Dum, Dumm, Dunkelberger, Ehrhart, Elliot, Emig, Endslow, Everhart, Fahnestock, Ferguson, Flickinger, Fleisher, Focht, Foose, Fosselman, Foyer, Frank, Froehlich, Fry, Funk, Gable, Gantt, Gardner, Garland, Garman, Gelbach, Gibson, Grubb, Hackett, Hall, Hamilton, Harding, Harkins, Hart, Hartman, Hartzell, Heim, Heisley, Hench, Hipple, Hobach, Hollenbach, Hulings, Hull, Ickes, Irvin, Irvine, Jackman, Jackson, Johnston, Jones, Kell, Keller, Kemp, Kern, Kerr, Kiner, Kinter, Kistler, Kline, Kochenderger, Kretzling, Lane, Latchford, Leonard, Liggett, Lindaman, Linn, Long, Losh, Loudon, Lupfer, Lutz, MacCluer, Magee, Manning, Marshall, McCartney, McCaskey, McClure, McGinnes, McGuire, McKee, McKeehan, McKenzie, McMillen, McMorris, Meminger, Michener, Miller, Minich, Mitchell, Motzer, Myers, Neilson, Niple, Nipple, Noel, Noll, Orner, Orris, Owen, Patterson, Peffley, Potter, Porter, Raffensperger, Reamer, Reeder, Reen, Reifsnyder, Rhinesmith, Rice, Robinson, Robison, Roddy, Rogers, Rupp, Sanderson, Scholl, Schroeder, Seibert, Shaefer, Shaver, Sheaffer, Shoemaker, Shortess, Shull, Shultz, Shumaker, Shuman, Smiley, Smith, Snyder, Soule, Sowers, Spicher, Stambaugh, Stahl, Stephens, Stewart, Stine, Stites, Stroup, Super, Sweger, Sypher, Taylor, Thatcher, Toland, Tressler, Trostle, Truby, Ulsh, VanCamp, Wagner, Watts, Weirick, Weise, West, White, Wickey, Woods, Wright, Zeigler, Zellers, Zimmerman10) Carlisle and Nearby PointsTelephone Directory - Winter 1928Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, 1928, 410 pagesThis is a telephone directory of several counties of lower-central Pennsylvania and some towns of Maryland for the year 1928 listing over 60,000 residents and businesses.  The directory information lists the resident's name, street address and telephone number arranged alphabetically by town.  This directory also includes the "yellow pages" section covering the businesses of the same area.Perry County Towns:Alinda, Andersonburg, Aquaduct, Becks Mills, Benvenue, Bixler, Blain, Bouch Mills, Bridgeport, Center, Cisna Run, Couchs Mills, Covallen, Cove, Cove Forge, Dimmsville, Dromgold, Duncannon, Elliottsburg, Erly, Falling Springs, Fort Robinson, Greenpark, Grier Point, Hunters Valley, Ickesburg, Juniata Bridge, Kistler, Landisburg, Lebo, Liverpool, Loysville, Madoka, Mannsville, Markelsville, Marysville, Millerstown, Nekoda, New Bloomfield, New Germantown, Newport, Oak Grove, Oriental, Perdix, Perry Valley, Pfouts Valley, Roseburg, Saville, Shermans Dale, Stoney Point, Sulphur Spring, Turkey Valley, Wardville, Wila 11) Tales of the CocolamusTheodore K.
