Description
~ MANSFIELD MA Massachusetts WOMEN'S CLUB ROSTERS ~ Always posting uncommon books and ephemera of interest to folks who love local history and genealogy. Some are real old, some not so old, but all interesting and uncommon. Are you interested in the history of Bristol County MA? Offered is an original "Year Book of the New Century Club, Mansfield, Massachusetts," for 1919-1920. This organization was founded in 1900 and joined the Massachusetts State Federation of Women's Clubs in 1907. Most of the surnames are old Yankee names. This booklet contains: * List of about 150 members, with Miss or Mrs. noted, and first name of woman * lists of charter members (deceased noted), past presidents, department heads, officers for 1919-1920 * "Calendar" of the year's events with month and day, individuals presenting lectures or performing music CONDITION & DESCRIPTION: this rare booklet is in excellent condition inside and out, obviously put away for safekeeping back 88 years ago! You might be seeing it larger than life but it measures approx. 6 7/8" x 5 3/8", ribbed paper rust color soft cover, impeccable cream-colored pages. The 10 printed pages are pristine clean, having no rips, tears, folds, age-toning, soiling, foxing, specks, etc., and are extremely tight together to original staples. This is not misshapen - I took the photo at an angle to try to avoid glare. I have nothing bad to point out about this and you'll be well-pleased with the condition. For accuracy there is a tiny bump at lower front cover edge, and several small light-colored oil spots at upper back margin and one small one near center which do not affect the pages or their edges, and might be from the printing machinery. This has no mustiness or old paper smell and comes from a smoke-free home on my watch. A sound, non-delicate piece of historical memorabilia that with your good care it will serve your research needs for many years to come. This is truly a wonderful reference for anyone interested in the history of Massachusetts women's social and organizational activities, or anyone doing early 20th century genealogy research in Bristol County. There are probably very few of this left, if any in private hands. It would make a most welcome contribution to a historical society or local historian.
